When asked by their children what they most-wanted to celebrate the special occasion, they requested a family heirloom portrait of everyone: grandparents, children and grandchildren.

This is where yours truly came in. The session was a lot of fun. Seeing their reactions to the images was priceless. They fell in love with them, and perhaps fell in love with each other all over again.

My little life philosophy:
At the end of the day, it’s about how you feel when you look back at your story in this adventure called life. I believe we enter the world hopefully surrounded by family, and leave it hopefully surrounded by family. Everything in-between is an opportunity to create meaning in life.

It’s a privilege for me to work with the number of families and children that I have. It’s always my goal to create images that strike the perfect blend of documentary and artistry. Images that when viewed by the current generation and those that follow, will bring about that feeling of togetherness that only exists with family.

This being said, I’m pleased to bring you “Family: Togetherness”. It’s an HD-Video showcasing photography stills of real families, lots of children, and true moments.

We all came together during an afternoon in the park. Some of the children were more enthusiastic than others, but humoured the grownups. Everyone was thrilled with the images, especially “Abbey Road”. Maybe you can tell which one that is from the video. Enjoy.

With just a few weeks remaining before Nicole and Steve become parents, we captured wonderful story-telling images and video of their love for each other.

Witnessing how children relate to me ~ the “photographer with the big camera”, with their siblings, parents, and animals we meet when shooting outdoors, is enjoyable. There’s always a story there.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Claudia, Gordon and their two children. Their warm European demeanour made for a great photo-session. Photographing on-location allowed us the freedom to be candid. Their children have such distinctive personalities. Towards the end of the session, I knew we had created a body of story-telling images worth treasuring.

The studio now offers high-definition video-shorts of photo-shoots, and I’m happy to share theirs with you. Enjoy.

Claudia Family Layout

The session was a lot of fun, even though one of my strobes blew. I always have backup gear on hand, so we were able to continue the session within a few minutes. Combining artificial light with natural light from a west-facing window made for some lovely lighting. Have multiple lighting sources with different colour temperatures can be a challenge, but with proper gels and / or custom white balance, beautiful lighting can still be achieved.

Whenever I photograph, I’m searching for a story. In this circumstance, the session ended up being very funny. At times I couldn’t wipe the big smile off my face because I was just too amused. We were all laughing. This seems to be a regular occurrence. I see humour in life; it’s one of the things, for me, that makes photographing families and children so enjoyable. Stephanie’s husband later said that though he didn’t know where I was going with the photo-session, he trusted me. This is so important to successful photography. It allows me to be creative and to easily give my subjects direction. Now having seen the pictures, he’s a happy camper, too; and still has a big smile on his cheeks.

Mini Movies by Dean Oros Photography + Design

I made and sold television series before becoming a pro photographer, so I know a lot about putting them together. Sometimes I like to make Mini Movies for my clients. Here’s a sample. The Bridal Party and I had so much fun during the day (and they had a great cake topper!), that I wanted to give them something a little different. Adding animation with music by Barry White provides for some fun. Enjoy!
